What does tolerance mean in Stainless Steel Plate?
The tolerance essentially identifies the dimension tolerance range for a certain design. For instance, if a product has a tolerance of.05 inches and a 2 inch dimension, the allowable range is from 1.95 to 2.05 inches. The Stainless Steel Plate Thickness Tolerance Chart can help customers understand the range of acceptable plate thicknesses and tailor their products accordingly. The SS Plate Standard Size Chart will make it easier to quickly comprehend the plate's permissible range or tolerance.
Is tolerance for SS Plate thickness?
Customers may discover the tolerance for SS Plate thickness as well as Stainless Steel Plate Thickness Chart In Mm, yes. The thickness of the plate, which is at least 9.5mm or 3/8inches, is measured along the longitudinal edges. The Astm A480 Thickness Tolerance, however, shouldn't go over 76.20mm, or 3 inches, from the edge. Additionally, the tolerance for plates that are 10 254mm or 10 inches thick is around 0.25mm or 0.010 inches.
How is SS 304 Plate Flatness tolerance calculated?
Customers can look at the Astm A240 Plate Flatness Tolerance Chart for their convenience, just like there is a 304 Stainless Steel Plate Thickness Chart. There is a flatness tolerance for thickness for each of the dimensions when taking into account a particular thickness.
What are SS Plate gauges?
The gauge of the SS plate is essentially the metal's thickness. Products made of stainless steel are gauged. Customers can use the Stainless Steel Plate Gauge Chart to clearly grasp the measurements and choose items that are appropriate for their needs. However, it's important to keep in mind that the higher the number, the thinner the stainless steel is while looking at the SS 304 Sheet Flatness Tolerance Chart. Therefore, the 12 gauge plate is significantly thicker than the 18 gauge plate.
This table lists the general industry standard specifications for Hot Rolled Annealed and Pickled (HRAP) stainless steel plate.

| Stainless Steel Plate Polishing | Almost every stainless steel plate item can be polished to a #4 polish, #6 polish, #7 polish, or #8 mirror shine. One or both sides of stainless plates can be polished. Polished stainless steel plates can also be trimmed to size. Surfaces that are free of pits can also be given. |
| Stainless Steel Plate Beveling | To prepare stainless steel plate for welding or other procedures, we can bevel the edges. |
| Blanchard grinding | In some applications, the flatness of stainless steel plates is crucial. Rajashri Sheet may blanchard grind stainless steel plates at the request of the customer. |
| Heatreating & Annealing | The mechanical characteristics of some stainless steel plates can be altered by heat treatment. Stainless steels that have been precipitation hardened, such as 17-4PH, can be heat treated. Heatreated 410 stainless steel plate is also available. Depending on the application, secondary annealing of 300 series stainless steel may be required. |
| Positive Material Identification (PMI) | For most stainless steel grades, Rajashri Sheet can undertake PMI testing in-house, or we can partner with outside labs to complete PMI to match customer specifications. |
| UT Testing | UT testing of stainless steel plates may be required in specific instances. This is something we can help you with. |
- Up to 36 in. (914 mm) of the longer lengths in the plane of the plate, measured when the plate is resting on a flat surface with the concavity of the curve downwards, are subject to the tolerances in this table, which do not necessarily apply to the rolling direction.
- If the longer dimensions are under 36 in. (914 mm), the tolerance is not greater then 1/4 in. (6.4mm).
- For plates with specified minimum yield strengths of 35 ski (240 MPa) or more, the permitted variations are increased to 1 1/2 times the amounts shown.

| ASTM Plate Specifications | |
|---|---|
| ASTM A167 | Stainless and heat-resistant chromium-nickel steel plate, sheet, and strip, as well as numerous stainless steel grades, are covered by this specification. Because ASTM A 240 encompasses much of the same information and criteria as ASTM A167, this specification is rarely used for stainless steel plate goods. This specification is now compliant with the A480/A480M criteria. |
| ASTM A176 | Stainless steel and heat-resistant chromium-nickel steel plate, sheet, and strip are covered under this ASTM Specification. Many grade-specific criteria were superseded or merged into ASTM A 240, similar to ASTM A167. This specification is now compliant with the A480/A480M criteria. |
| ASTM A240 | This specification governs a set of general requirements for stainless steel plate, sheet, and strip, comprising ASTM specifications A167, A240/A240M, A176, A264, A263, A265, A693, A793, A666, A693, and A895. The thickness tolerances and manufacturing standards for stainless steel plate are covered by ASTM A480. |
| ASTM A693 | Precipitation-hardening stainless steel plate, sheet, and strip are covered by this ASTM specification. ASTM A693 covers 17-4Ph stainless steel, for example. |
| ASTM A480 | For 300 series stainless steels, this is the most commonly mentioned stainless steel plate specification. For common applications, this specification includes chromium, chromium-nickel, and chromium-manganese-nickel stainless steel plate, sheet, and strip. |
